Your path to starting your studies: Explained step by step

Decision
  • Initial interview with the Student Advisory Service: An initial interview with the Student Advisory Service will take place.

  • Take advantage of our taster day and get a better impression of our university and our contact persons.

  • Decide in favour of our university and take the next steps with us!

  • Check your eligibility for admission: Check whether you fulfil the requirements for admission and, if necessary, prepare artistic work if you would like to start our Design Bachelor's programme.

  • Clarify finances: Know the tuition fees and make sure you clarify financial affordability.

  • Prove language skills: Submit proof of required language skills if necessary (e.g. German B2 for B.A., English B2 for M.A.).

  • Arrange entry and residence: Take care of visa and residence permits if you are coming from abroad

APPLUCATION

  • Know and adhere to the application deadline: Make sure that your application documents are complete and submitted to us on time.

  • Documents are checked: Your application documents will be checked for completeness and accuracy.

  • Admission interview: An admission interview will be held with the head of the degree programme to check your suitability.

Admission and contract
  • Admission and contract: After a successful interview, you will receive admission and the contract will be sent to you. Both parties sign the contract.

  • Accommodation and insurance: organise your accommodation and take out health insurance if necessary.

  • Apply for a visa: If necessary, apply for your visa in good time.

  • Start of studies: Your studies begin with the Welcome Days, where you get to know the university and your fellow students better.

Brand University: awarded, accredited and certified

Entry requirements for Bachelor study programmes at BU

Qualification to enter a university (Abitur or Fachabitur).

With appropriate previous experience, applicants can also be admitted to studies in individual cases without a (Fach-)Abitur.

Entry requirements for Master study programmes at BU

  • First academic degree/ Bachelor’s degree with at least 210 CP ECTS

  • English language proficiency (IELTS min. 5.5/TOEFL min. 72), min. B2

  • 180 CP ECTS + working experience/ acquisition of 30 CP during your Master studies at BU through attending courses, participation in practice projects and/or research lab.

  • English language proficiency (IELTS min. 5.5/TOEFL min. 72), min. B2

Scope of the application documents

For the regular start of studies in the winter semester (1st October), you must apply by 15th September. For the regular start of studies in the summer semester (1st April), you must apply by 15th March.

Applicants who do NOT require an entry visa for Germany: September 15th and March 15th

Applicants who require an entry visa for Germany: June 30th and December 15th

We need the following application documents from you:

  • Completed application form

  • Qualification to enter a university (Abitur or Fachabitur).
    With appropriate previous experience, applicants can also be admitted to studies in individual cases without a (Fach-)Abitur.

  • Curriculum vitae and certificates

  • Proof of German language skills B2 level

  • Motivation letter

  • Portfolio (only for Bachelor in Brand & Communication Design)

Application documents Master programme

  • Completed application form including photo

  • Higher Secondary School Certificate

  • Bachelor Degree Certificate, Transcript of Records, Grading System of the University (Diploma Supplement)

  • Master Degree Certificate, Transcript of Records, Grading System of the University (Diploma Supplement) (if available)

  • Copy of valid ID card/passport

  • Proof of English language proficiency (IELTS, TOEFL or equivalent of proof)

  • A current CV in tabular form and chronological order

  • Motivation Letter

  • Proof of working experience, letters of reference
